What is Love?

Tuesday, January 29th, 2008

As we all welcome in the New Year PeaceKeeper wants to have a heart to heart. In honor of Valentines Day every day we will give away one Heart Shaped pendant to one of our PeaceKeeper customers.

 What is Love?

Thats one part of this heart to heart, but there is another.
We also want to talk about love, and not just the cliche that February
14th can be made out to be.

We all desire love in some way but can love change the world?  When in a relationship cultivating love as the origin of your actions certainly leads to situations that lead to a fulfilling relationship but what about using that same model for friendships, business, global politics, daily interactions and any relationship we engage in during our lives?

In a new article in Time magazine kissing is explained as “a rich and complicated exchange of postural, physical and chemical information” and no accident “that the kiss is the first snare”. Obviously kisses don’t always lead to love but there is hardly a love that does not involve kissing.
You also obviously don’t want to share kisses with just anyone nor can you if you are talking about kisses leading to love being the basis for global politics, but PeaceKeeper has a way to share your kisses to help women in need, which seems like a good start to learning to let love be the motivator.

What are your thoughts on love?

Help Say No To Violence with UNIFEM’s New Online Campaign

Wednesday, January 23rd, 2008

UNIFEM, the organization that our LipGloss UNIFEM is named after and that we donate directly to every time you buy one, has a great new campaign to raise awareness and money to help end the pandemic of violence against against women and girls.

One simple way to help is adding your signature. Nicole Kidman is asking for our help, and you don’t want to let Nicole Kidman down do you?? The United Nations Foundation (UNF) announced  it will donate $1 dollar for each of the first 100,000 signatures to the online petition. That means just signing your name, which is free for you, will donate one dollar. many women in the world live on less than one dollar for theier whole day so this small act can mean a lot depending on where you are. Don’t let working to end violence end there though. There is a online ToolKit you can use to spread awareness. http://www.unifem.org/campaigns/vaw/toolkit.php

Go to http://www.saynotoviolence.org/ to sign the statement.
“At least one out of every three women around the world has been beaten, coerced into sex, or otherwise abused in her lifetime — with the abuser usually someone known to her. Violence against women and girls is a universal problem of pandemic proportions. Perhaps the most pervasive human rights violation that we know today, it devastates lives, fractures communities, and stalls development.”

** In just the time it took me to write this blog entry $1000 was raised**

Peace,
Jen

PeaceKeeper Holiday Party: Hope

Thursday, January 17th, 2008

Yay!
Today is our annual PeaceKeeper Holiday party. We will be bowling again this year and we had a great time last year so this year promises to be just as fun. I’ll try to post some pictures tomorrow.

I am making the unofficial theme of this party “Hope”.

Its important to remind ourselves when we work so hard to improve the lives of others that life can have meaning and worthwile. So much of the issues that surround our activism, like sex trafficking, can give the feeling of hopelessness. We have to make sure not only do we remind ourselves to keep working to make the world better for everyone, but we have to make sure that we see the hope in life.

A fire has to have different parts to keep it going, different fuels. Certainly knowing the wrongs that happen in life is one of the fuels, say the wood that is burning. Fires also need air to keep going, and enjoying our lives and rememebring what it is taken away from others is the air that keeps our fires to end exploitation, sex trafficking, slavery and the like burning.

Fires change what is burned and usually for the worse. Our fire however is one that is working to change things for the better. We want to change the world to one where all can live their lives without violence, abuse, unessesary pain and suffering.

So here’s to hope!

Being in the “Now” is Beautiful

160x600 Being in the “Now” is Beautiful250x300 Being in the “Now” is Beautiful

I don’t know about you, but my New Year has started off with a bang. My inbox is filled with e-mails from tons of people who saved up communications they didn’t complete before the Holidays and my calendar is filling up like a spring flood. All of this makes me wonder about how to nurture myself and keep a balanced life as the New Year steams ahead. One secret I recently read about is from the mystic Eckhart Tolle. He says that the best way to enjoy the sensual pleasures and blessings of one’s life is to stop what we are doing and live in the moment…. even for a few moments in the middle of our day. I love this idea. Since work and deadlines are not going anywhere, why not stop a few times a day for even a minute at a time and feel one’s own body, breathe in the air and be a witness to the how precious life is right here and now. How cool is that; crazy hard work coupled with crazy gratefulness. Eckhart Tolle’s book is called “The Power of Now” for those yogi’s out there interested in learning more.
By the way, do you have a good idea or story that you would like to share on our blog on how to create a delicious life? Send it to us with a photo of yourself, and if your story is picked, we’ll send you a PeaceKeeper Cosmetics Gift Package valued at $45.00.

Peace, Jody
